Coming in March: A JJL Love Affair with Books
We could also call this,
“The Book Lovers’ Online History of the Ho‘ohana Community”
- In February of 2005, A Love Affair with Books had its debut on Talking Story, with book reviews shared by 9 bloggers within the Ho‘ohana Community:
“Some of the best books I have ever read were recommended to me by friends. So in celebration of our month-long Ho‘ohana, A Love Affair with Books, I asked our Ho‘ohana Online Community to tell us, “What are you reading now?”
These ladies and gentlemen represent some of the brightest minds in leadership, and they are the most voracious readers I know. They are all authors in their own right, and I was so intrigued with their answers: I instantly made their recommendations the newest additions to my own reading wish list.”
- In February of 2006, we held our 2nd Annual Love Affair with Books, also on Talking Story. This time, 20 reviewers recommended more than 52 books!
“Ho‘owaiwai is a Hawaiian word which means, ‘to enrich.’
This is what the power of the written word has been for me, and for many in our Ho‘ohana Community. We share so much more than our recommendations for certain titles; we share our hunger for knowledge, our thirst for the revelations of experiences shared in the non-fiction genre, and our optimism for the new learning that reading is certain to inspire in us. We revel in the possibilities they present, knowing those possibilities can be ours. These in themselves provide vast, deep abundance.
When you read the book reviews which follow, I am sure you will delight in their variety; there are titles you will recognize, yet I am quite sure there will be others you do not. There is a find here for everyone. As I did, you will gain renewed respect for those we are so blessed to be in the company of in this community; you will be filled with a very keen sense of appreciation.”
- We sought to somehow add value in this second go-round, and as a result of being thoroughly inspired by our community, two purchases were made: A total of 72 hardcover business books were donated to the business library of Chaminade University in Hawai‘i, home of the Hogan Enterpreneurs. More than half of them were signed by the books’ authors with an encouraging message in celebration of the students’ intention with learning.
This year, the 3rd Annual Love Affair with Books has a new home; right here on Joyful Jubilant Learning, where Aloha continues to be shared by the ever-growing Ho‘ohana Community.
Aloha, a definite love of books, and all of you; now that is quite a recipe for learning!
The Talking Story blog was born as the discussion pages of Say Leadership Coaching, and thus in its first two years, there was a natural concentration on the non-fiction business genre. Joyful Jubilant Learning gives us the opportunity to fling our arms wide to more possibilities, and we look forward to your reading recommendations.
Voracious readers we are, and we will always be! We dedicate this month of February to reading with relish; join us!
Book reviews will then be shared through-out the month of March; click here and sign up to participate.

Count me in, it will be a way for me to get my stack of books read.
