7 Wonders of Joyful Jubilant Learning
Join us in our big, hairy, audacious goal to Saturday, 07-07-07 and
Listen, Laugh, Learn, Link, Love, Live, and Leap to Wonder
- Listen — welcome new ideas and every teacher, listening fully opened
- Laugh — with the positive and uplifting joy others are ready to give you
- Learn — with childlike curiosity and in a collaboratively jubilant way
- Link — use others’ lessons learned as a springboard for your own, sharing your knowledge freely
- Love — tap into your passion for learning, and be of loving heart in your new bonds with others
- Live — be a shining example of the Lifelong Learner; “Be the learner you want to see in the world”
- Leap — to a new experience, stretching past the familiar, accepting leaps of higher intuition.
Allow learning to transform you, and to bring you to Wonder.
This is the BHAG we are leaping toward:
On 07-07-07 we are determined to collect at least 777 Learning Links, possibly more.
This is a shout-out to all Joyful and Jubilant Learners, readers and writers alike. Will you help us reach our goal? This is what you do:
1. Between now and Saturday, July 07, 2007 take your personal leaps of wonder:
- Listen, Laugh, and Learn as much as you can from the collective wisdom online.
- Link to this post and spread the good word for us!
- If you blog, feel free to grab the smaller banners in our right sidebar to promote the event on your own site, and proclaim yourself as a JJL Contributor. You will be Loving, Living, and Leaping to wonder as you take these first steps!
2. On (or before) Saturday, July 07, 2007 return here, and enter your favorite 7 Learning Links in the comments. They can be from your own site, or from others. Along with each link, designate which of our JJL Learning categories you feel they best fit into, for we will be compiling them on this master page by category:
Compilation: 7 Wonders of Joyful Jubilant Learning
Our only rule: Keep it positive and clean, in the spirit of our 7 Wonders of Learning, and the aloha spirit this site was founded on by the Ho‘ohana Community. This will be a Learning List for all ages.
We only need 111 comments to achieve our goal ... think we could push for 777 contributions? WOW! That would be 5,439 Learning Links; 5,439 leaps to wonder... Let’s go for it!

Learning will always keep me wondering and learning is a WONDERful experience. Here are 7 that came quickly to mind:
1. Auditory learning - The voice of Connie on You Tube singing somewhere over the rainbow:

Here are my 7:
http://www.sayleadershipcoaching.com/talkingstory/2006/09/brother_george_.html#comments - my favorite personal learning experience. And right up there as one of the most important in my life.
http://www.joyfuljubilantlearning.com/joyful_jubilant_learning/2006/10/jots_and_iotas_.html - this is a sequel of sorts to #1, and a tribute of another sort to the word "insouciant".
http://tshalffull.blogspot.com/2006/05/seven-most-important-words.html -another key learning event for me, and it also ties in nicely with the number 7 theme.
http://stevefarber.com/mt/archives/2006/06/a_world_of_chan.html -this one is by Steve Farber, and it was an elegantly simple and profound piece of learning in the form of a question: "Where is it written, where's the universal law that says doing great business, amplifying personal joy and meaning and changing the world are mutually exclusive ideas?"
http://tshalffull.blogspot.com/2006/08/10-secrets-to-our-success-sequel.html -This was a personal learning project, winnowing 36 factors down to 10, with the help of some great fellow bloggers.
http://tshalffull.blogspot.com/2006/09/return-to-hope-on-laptop.html -Sometimes you also cry when you learn.
http://www.successful-blog.com/1/61-the-ferarri-analogy-for-organized-writing/ -This one is very important to me, for many reasons. It clarified my thinking on how I should write (and therefore blog), it introduced me to Liz Strauss, one of the best teachers in the blogosphere, and it led to one of the best learning weekends of my life, SOBCon07. Not bad for one little post!
------------
Love the short story why you share each of these with us Terry - mahalo! I'll add your links to our compilation page as numbers 29 through 35.

My goodness Rosa, is there no end to your audaciousness!
Here's my contribution - I've done my best to categorise them but feel free to rejig them if you think they fit better somewhere else.
Creativity, Innovation and Design
Prompts, questions, pictures, challenges that get your creativity flowing at Roger von Oech's "creative think"
http://blog.creativethink.com/
Experience and Place
I'm not sure if this is the right category but I love Emma Bird's How to Italy site even though I've no plans (yet!) to move to Italy. I love the way she writes about the place (Sardinia) that she loves, with insight, humour and affection.
http://howtoitaly.typepad.com/howtoitaly/
Inspired Learning
Another one that's hard to categorise but for me Hilda Carroll's Living Out Loud site is full of gentle ideas, thoughts, words, quotes, possibilities and reminders that we can learn how to be happy now
http://shirleymclaine.typepad.com/livingoutloud/
Language, Words and Vocabulary
A bit hard for me to choose ONE site on language, words and vocabulary but I'll go for WordSell for its unique blend of humour, visuals, marketing advice and patent love of words (not to mention the word nerd challenge!)
http://in-sidemarketing.blogspot.com/
Seeking Understanding
I have learned so much about the mind, the brain, our multiple intelligences from Robyn McMaster at Brain Based Biz. Robyn is also a model teacher: always looking to learn more herself, to extend her knowledge and most of all to share her learning.
http://brainbasedbiz.blogspot.com/
Storytelling, Yarns and Tall Tales
Mabel and Harry is a fun place to dip into for stories and anecdotes about leadership at work
http://mabelandharry.blogspot.com/
Good Questions and Great Dialogue
Liz Strauss is coming up with some amazing questions in her "questions to get closer to you" series - they really make you think (hard). And I love the way she picks out the nuggets of wisdom in the comments she gets back, encouraging, motivating, rewarding those who join the conversation.
http://www.successful-blog.com/1/questions-to-get-closer-to-you-question-3/
Rosa, I just wanted to add one other thing that the 7th July in the UK is the two year anniversary of bombs going off in London, and people here are quite jumpy about what the date might bring, especially as there have been attempted attacks in the last couple of days. So it's not a date that has positive associations here.
I hope that this exercise and others like it can help us to learn how to live more peacefully with each other.
Joanna
------------
Truly appreciate the category help Joanna, you're a doll! I second your thoughts about having all the positive in our world reach the best tipping point for us, clearing away any feelings of dread or nervousness; if this exercise can help do that, we've already reached a magnificent goal!

Fabulous idea! Here are my 7 loving, living, learning links:
1. http://www.moderngoddessonline.com/blog/?p=75 - I Choose Love is a wonderful post from one of my favourite blogs, A Modern Goddess. Winston Churchill said “You create your own universe as you go along” so say to yourself “enough is enough… I’m going to have a great day from this point forward”
2. http://naomisimson.com/index.cfm/2006/7/21/Hitting-the-wall - Hitting the Wall is along the same lines as my first pick by which it is up to us how we react to situations and events. This is RedBalloonDays CEO’s blog - Naomi Simson and a person who I personally found very inspiring.
3. http://innocentdrinks.typepad.com/innocent_drinks/2006/07/our_new_arrival_1.html - Our New Arrivals at Innocent Drinks. Having my own business (all but a small one!) I loved seeing this post at Innocent for the new Kids drinks - how exciting!
4. http://tshalffull.blogspot.com/2007/05/5-things-i-do-every-day-to-be.html - 5 Things I do everyday to be successful. I am so glad I found this blog, Ramblings From a Glass Half Full, it helps me to look on the bright side of life (I feel a singalong coming!).
5. http://jellywares.blogspot.com/2007/06/still-knitting.html - Still Knitting is from Jellywares which is a blog I have only recently found. This post me to try my hand at knitting with the end result a pair of nice warm gloves!
6. http://rainbowdesigns.com.au/blog/?p=72 - Great Action Plan plus another post that reaffirms the adage ‘taking responsibilty’.
7. http://rainbowdesigns.com.au/blog/?p=29 - I love this saying and even have it on my website.
Enjoy - Jacqui, Rainbow Designs.

1. Author Simon Haynes of the Hal Spacejock series has kindly provided an example on his blog of a completed outline for one of his novels. For any writer wanting to learn how to outline a book, this generous contribution will be invaluable:
http://halspacejock.blogspot.com/2007/06/entire-hal-4-outline-right-here.html
2. He has also written a wonderful article on how to plot out a novel:
http://www.spacejock.com.au/PlottingANovel.html
3. As well as one on the process of novel writing:
http://www.spacejock.com.au/news0147.html
4. And he even provides the address of the FREE, OPEN SOURCE software that he uses in creating his book outlines, including the outline provided in link number one above. The software is called FreeMind and you can find it here:
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
5. Amazing FREE, OPEN SOURCE software for brainstorming, note taking, note organizing, course outlining... also FreeMind. I know this is the same as number four, but it's good for so many creative applications that I didn't want it to be overlooked as a "writer's tool":
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
6. The Signed Page - this is just a fun one I found, providing "e-signings" of various novels, mostly fantasy and science fiction books, so that people who can't get to live author signings can still get autographed copies of new releases. They even accept brief personalizations. WAY cool.
http://www.signedpage.com/
7. The best place to stay on top of all the coolest news in the world of science fiction and fantasy books: the Mind Unbound on-line newsletter, Wet Ink... Sign up for the e-mail list this month and get a chance to win a FREE Jim Hines Goblin Adventure book, with FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING! (Shameless self-promotion time... applause warmly appreciated... Listening to this man turn his fear and trepidation into magic to be shared and success for himself was a truly inspiring few minutes. Thanks to Leah MacLean for sharing it with us all. (I've just replayed it and the goosebumps are still prickling. This is WORTH listening to.) http://workingsolo.com.au/2007/06/16/entrepreneurs-come-in-all-shapes-and-sizes/
The Relationship Advisor and blogger in me liked this. I laughed heartily.
http://blaugh.com/2007/06/21/vowing-wedding-favors/
By implication, for us to learn there needs to be something to learn from. One of the first places we learn is from our parents. For those starting in a relationship, it's a good idea to analyse what worked for our parents (or not), so that we can learn from their mistakes.
http://pinkapple.typepad.com/take_a_bite/2007/06/secrets-to-star.html
One of the most precious links I have in my blogging world is that with Karen Wallace, The Calm Coach. She generously shared my excitement as starting up this new blog, Apple Tart, with her readership. Thanks Karen for more things than you could ever imagine. And isn't her site so PEACEFUL?
http://www.theclearingspace.com.au/2007/07/06/pink-apple-bakes-a-tart/
One of the secret ingredients to Unconditional Love is to start with loving yourself unconditionally. Confidence is wrapped up in that package. Anne Maybus over at The Tall Poppy started a string of post around the blogosphere aimed at Confidence in a Box.
http://pinkapple.typepad.com/take_a_bite/2007/03/confidence_in_a.html
Most of us wonder at what is Living. Carolyn Manning over at Thoughts and Philosophies recently reflected on it.

Leaping as a concept makes me fearful. But it never stops me from leaping in where angels fear to tread - especially with an opinion!

Dwayne has raised the bar with 21 links, and so I have to round up at least 7 more! This time, I’m trying this the way that Tim did:
Listen — to your customers and readers by learning how to use surveys on your blogs and websites: Survey Gizmo starts you off with a free option as you learn
http://www.surveygizmo.com/features/survey-tool-for-bloggers-webmasters/

Hope Saved on a Laptop
http://lifeisafairytale.wordpress.com/2007/03/06/hope-saved-on-a-laptop/
This 9/11 story is a powerful reminder that waiting until tomorrow to chase our dreams may be too late. We owe it to ourselves to at least begin the journey today.
Good Questions/Great Discussions
What do you believe in?
http://www.drewsmarketingminute.com/2006/11/what_do_you_bel.html
This grew out of a famous scene in the movie Bull Durham. The question...what do you believe in generated some remarkable answers throughout the blogosphere. The learning comes from asking yourself the question.

I had to dig but I found seven more Rosa:
Belly Laugh Day
Having FUN is a way of life at Southwest Airlines, and when I was contacted by Elaine Helle, the organizer of the Belly Laugh Day, I knew that Southwest had found a kindred spirit. Elaine calls the event a “virtual celebration” of fun and laughter, and it takes place on January, 24 (1/24) at 1:24 p.m. in whatever time zone you reside. Belly Laugh Day is international in scope, and you are encouraged to laugh out loud at 1:24 p.m

10 Ways To Make Your Boss Laugh
People like and trust someone with a good sense of humor. A good sense of humor shows the boss that you are happy and like your job. A sense of humor is good for job security. Developing a great sense of humor is a commitment.

The Laugh Gap Explained
When I’ve asked stand-up comics to account for the preponderance of men in their business, I’ve gotten the kind of answer evolutionary psychologists would give: funny men are winners in the mating game. A reader named Beevod (a male, I’d guess) put it succinctly: “Make a woman laugh and she’s yours for life.” Women can be hilarious (cf. Sarah Silverman), but fewer of them bother trying because they don’t get the same rewards for it.

Leap Forward and Benefit from Nonlinear Growth
Never think linear about the future. Think in terms of leaps. Think leaps. Always expect the unexpected.

How Can Parents Model Good Listening Skills?
In one of the Family Circus cartoon strips, the little girl looks up at her father, who is reading the newspaper, and says: "Daddy, you have to listen to me with your eyes as well as your ears." That statement says almost all there is to say about listening, whether in our personal conversations or in learning in school.

The Seven Deadly Sins of (Not) Listening
As we learn communication during our school years we experience many speech classes and writing classes. But how many have ever taken a class on listening?

How to Listen to Your Teenager without Appearing to Have Attention Deficit Disorder
In one of the Family Circus cartoon strips, the little girl looks up at her father, who is reading the newspaper, and says, "Daddy, you have to listen with your eyes as well as your ears." That statement says almost all there is to say about listening. Being a good listener means focusing attention on the message and reviewing the important information.

Hone Your Listening Skills
In a recent blog post and comment, Hal Macomber said, "Listening is one of the foundational skills of project managers. Without a high level of competence at listening projects are doomed to drift. Given the general characterization by wives that husbands don't listen, anytime we have project managers who are men we have a potential breakdown."
