Rapid Fire Learning | August 2007

The August Challenge - Whew!
I had no idea when I challenged us with a month of learning/unlearning that we would encounter so much! From the many ideas, it's hard to narrow my list to five but here goes:
- Fragility of life does not respect age.
- Discontentment.
- Myopia!
- Habits associated to unnecessary complication.
- Pace does not equal progress or demonstrate importance nor is constant activity is a sign of importance or a full life.
- Entitlement and release my strangleholds on people, possessions and plans!
- The many ways I complicate my life by consciously approaching my schedule, tasks, accomplishments and commitments with simplicity.
- Envy of others by deliberately celebrating the excellence in others and in myself.
- The fear of examination.
Beyond these, I have been challenged to unlearn: trying to motivate, mediocrity, "the road", the power of should, rules to write with confidence and more!
Ha! I couldn't do it! Sure, I could have combined these into complex sentences but why play that game? The conclusion, I have much to unlearn! And, I know where to begin my quest! It's the "D" words - decision and discipline. Don't you love those words?
Thank you for joining me on this adventure. Your comments and articles were so challenging to me! And, thank you, Rosa, for the opportunity to host RFL in August! Now, I need to get started on my next journey (Rosa, you know what that is) and I can't wait!

PS...I did get that walk in with my wife!

Thank you Dean for the encouragement to learn, unlearn and relearn this month.
Your story about releasing our grip on the thorns of the rose is the one that I think stays with me most clearly, perhaps because it captures so many of the other themes that we have been exploring here this month.

Dean, you have taken Rapid fire Learning to a new level this month. It will be tough to match it but hey that's what we are all about, learning, and unlearning, collaborating, and creating...
Thank you!
Honk! Honk!
PS - I am sure the walk with your wife was a good one, it doesn't seem like it could have been anything less than that given the preparation you made for it!

Good job Dean. I love it when we go right ahead and color outside of the lines. Glad you didn't keep your list to just five things.
I also like those "D" words - decision and discipline, especially when practiced with another "D" word -- DAILY.
